Today we welcomed a new walker – on her first ever venture into the hills – Kiera from Ireland, and welcomed back Frank after a rough period health wise. Frank knows the ropes, but for Kiera, today must have been wonderful. We had everything. Beautiful scenery, snow, interesting walking, several fairly easy scrambles, warm sunshine and short spells of icy wind. Eight of us headed from Little Town (a couple of houses and a farm, certainly little) up Newlands Beck and then onto the very wet, scramblyslopes of Hindscarth where the snow was quite thick. The track along to Dale Head was covered with snow and we were amazed to see a runner, coming down the hill at full belt. How can they possibly keep their balance? Lunch was down at Dale Head tarn where David’s daft dogs, one in particular simply rested in the frozen water for ages, and then came and gave Dave and Frank a good cold shower. (Supposed to be very good for you!!!)The climb up to High Spy was hard work but in lovely sunshine and along the ridge, via Maiden Moor and Narrow Moor was delightful. Thanks David for a beautiful walk in superb conditions.
