Records set today, shortest ever A walk.. 50mins..then more time spent in Coffee House than on the Fell. The weather was very grim at Martindale, they just went up Hallin Fell.

The B walk managed a little more and they too spent some time in the coffee house at Talkin Tarn.

The walk was cut short but they still managed about 7 miles

Roger's Report

Some days are made for walking, others for sitting by the fireside with a good book. Today was probably the latter. Nevertheless, six of us drove to Martindale and after discussion decided that a walk over Place Fell was not going to be a pleasant experience. Instead a quick shifty up Hallin Fell seemed a good idea, and it was. This is a superb view point even when the wind gusts to seventy mph and the rain arrives horizontally. Refreshments at a refurbished Granny Dowbekins followed with good crack about the forthcoming summer fashions which apparently  means pink for both men and women. Where do we chaps (and ladies) buy pink walking boots? Altogether a very nice morning, and we arrived home with plenty of time to enjoy that good book.

Stephen's Report

5 people, including the walk leader, set off from Gelt Woods and walked the pathways and road back to Brampton and up the Dandy line, then on to Talkin Tarn where upon arrival a coffee break was organised in the tearoom beside the fire, the tearoom was chosen in the hope the weather would break, but alas it didn't.
After suitable refreshment we walked around the tarn and Frank gave us an explanation of what a wisdom tree was, as the weather showed no signs of clearing up the walk leader decided to propose an amendment to the walk in the form of pushing on and finishing early and going for a pub lunch but he was rightly overruled in favour of continuing with the walk although instead of continuing to Middle Gelt and on to the quarry a shortened route was taken through Gelt Woods and back to the cars.
After a shortened walk through Gelt Woods it was on to Hayton Farm Shop for refreshments.

Thanks to all who came along.

Stephen
