7 of us got off the coach at Dunmail Raise which probably reflected the numbers on the bus. Never a walk in the park this hike but the weather made the conditions very difficult at times to say the least. Having said that we made great time on getting to the top of Fairfield for lunch in the shelter at 12.15. here we had the worst of the weather which looked like sleet. It was a short lunch of 15 minutes as there was no point hanging around. The clag was down all day so there was no real views to be had a part from the ghost like figures wandering about the fells. On the positive side, 5 Wainwrights were done which was a good hit for those currently bagging.
It probably didn’t seem like it at the time but the weather made it a good challenge making us all prepared for when things are not great in the future.
A big thank you to the six that joined me on this walk as it did turn out to be a bit of a route march with no real rests. This did allow us to bag seats in the Apple Pie Cafe at the end of the walk. Here, everyone seemed happy on how the day had gone in particular the drinks, cakes and pasties that were scoffed. Was this is a pretty grim walk or a great walk? Who knows.
