“Having checked the forecast beforehand, we knew we’d be in for a soggy day ahead, however with the prospect of some improvement in the afternoon. We set off from Rydal Mount on our journey up to Fairfield. There was little to see as we headed up into the mist. I was thankful of a clear path to follow rather than relying on a map and compass for direction. The winds increased as we continued to gain height and we had a brief conversation as to whether we might need to think of a plan B. We decided to press on onto Fairfield where we could reassess the options.  Lunch on Fairfield was a welcome stop where we could find some shelter in one of the many large cairns. We did noticed we were the only ones up there! Hhmm – “Mad dogs and Englishmen” was a phrase that came up in conversation. Conditions did not worsen and so we continued on our walk down the Eastern side of the shoe. As we approached High Brock Crag at last the mist began to lift to reveal the long awaited stunning views. We arrived at the “bad step” to find it wasn’t so bad! The weather turned into a lovely sunny afternoon and we were able to dry out before getting back to the Tea room for some well-deserved refreshments.  Thanks to everyone who came along!”
