B Walk
Bassenthwaite to Keswick
10 Miles Grade 2
Leader: Ian Rowley
Report & Photos by
Ian Rowley & Christine Loftus
The bus was almost full today but fortunately there was room to squeeze in the walk leader and his entourage (spouse and middle son)
21 club walkers (including, luckily, the leader) chose to do the B walk which began in unpromising conditions underfoot and overhead but soon improved as the day and the walk progressed. Unlike a previous visit to Dash Falls the weather was very clement and rapid progress made to the agreed lunch stop in front of remote Skiddaw House. Several returning fell runners were somewhat surprised to find such a large welcome committee for them as they finished their run at the hostel.
The views improved with the weather and the absence of any stiles or othe obstacles made for a sociable walk which was enjoyed by everyone including several newcomers to the club. (Sorry I did’nt get all the names but I hope you’ll return again)
The final leg under the slopes of Lonscale fell on a narrow path high above Glenderaterra beck was one of the highlights of a fine day venturing into remote but still beautiful lakeland countryside.
Many thanks to all who came along.
Ian and Christine
