I'm extremely lucky to be able to walk out of my house and enjoy walking the footpaths and lonnings that link some of the villages around Kirkbampton to Burgh by Sands. One I normally do is about  4 miles and given the superb spell of weather and time of the year I don't worry about mud over my ankles or nettles up to my armpits. Starting down Oaks Lane, opposite the School, I am immediately on tree lined paths for the first mile before reaching the road from Thurstonfield to BBS. Turning right for a couple of hundred yards I then join farm lonnings for the next 2.5 mils or so before reaching Thurstonfield and the walk back to the start. I'm sure others do use these routes but I have yet to meet them.
