7 of us set off in driving rain from Greenhead towards Thirwell Castle and, although not physically, it went downhill from there. Before we reached Walltown Craggs we were in whiteout Wind driven snow enveloped us so we decided to take the lower path to Lowtown farm. The snow eased off a bit and we could actually see where we were going. Set off up Walltown Nick and disaster struck. Sara slipped on some mud and heard a crack above her ankle. Stephen went back to the farmhouse to beg for a lift back to Greenhead for Sara while Richard and Jim somehow got Sara as far as the car could get to and the lovely farmer Bee took them to Greenhead. Stephen and Myna then took Sara to A& E in Stephen’s car. Sara has broken her tibia and is in hospital awaiting an operation tomorrow (Monday)
We wish Sara all the very best and thank Richard and Jim, our strongmen heroes, for getting Sara to the car, a huge thank you to Stephen and Myna for taking her to the hospital and grateful thanks to Bee of Lowtown Farm for getting us to Greenhead
We are repeating this walk (by request!) on the 26th May - do join us
