B Walk
Latrigg
8 Miles Grade 3
Leader: John McKay
Report & Photos by John McKay
The last minute change to this walk, due to the dreadful weather forecast, turned out to be a very wise decision (not unusual for me). In fact it turned out to be a rather miraculous walk. It was a miracle that it didn’t rain at all and when the wind really got up we always seemed to be in a sheltered spot. It was also a miracle that we all managed to negotiate a very tricky section without mishap. Five of us set off up Latrigg, a warm welcome to Tom, out on his first walk with the club, not just that but his first walk ever. I hope he enjoyed it and I would like to make it clear that this walk was not a typical walk, my walks never are. We had some great views from the summit of Latrigg and set off for the Glenderaterra Valley. The wind was picking up and rain looked imminent so we decided to take a different route and headed down towards the beck. There was a path but it obviously doesn’t get used very much and soon disappeared completely. We ended up negotiating a very rough, steep section and it took us quite some time to find a way through. I really enjoyed it, I do like a bit of “Off Piste”, it adds a little bit of excitement and adventure to a walk. We finally made it through to a clear path and it was then straightforward round the base of Latrigg back to the cars before heading off for coffee and cake.
A great walk and a great day, thanks to everyone that came along.
