On a wet and dismal morning 12 hardy souls elected to the A walk. The leader could see the lack of enthusiasm etched on the faces because it mirrored his own thoughts.
We made our way swiftly to the top of Castle Crag and played our part in a moving and poignant remembrance day service reverently carried out and let us remember that this is the one day of the year when the walking comes 2nd to the main event.
After the service we regrouped at the foot of Castle Crag and made the ascent of Tongue Gill in good time. Due to the fairly tight grouping of the party during this ascent the leader thought that everyone was climbing easily only to find later that there had been mutterings within the ranks that the leader was a slave driver and maybe any future walks should be given a swerve, still such is life. The party were invited to visit a rather impressive cave near the top of Tongue Gill but the offer was declined by almost all.
A very short lunch brake was taken on the summit of High Spy in almost dry but very cold windy conditions. Miraculously and also happily lunch over the rain had finally stopped and the wind had dropped though the wind did find us again later.
We enjoyed pleasant stroll over Maiden Moor and up onto Catbells where we were joined briefly by 3 members of the B party but the ramblers elite were no match for the swifter of foot B party and they quickly accelerated away from us.
A easy stroll into Portinscale was followed by refreshments and a earlier than planned homeward departure.
Many thanks to all who joined me and helped to make a memorable day.
