C Walk
Keswick Memorial
6 Miles Grade 4
Leader: Joe Birney
Report & Photos by Joe Birney
On a fine but cold morning 19 of us left the Keswick bus station on today's " C "walk? We had a steep start via Stanger St and then over the New Bridge into Fitz Park where a slow circuit of the Park Saw us visiting nooks and corners which some of us had never seen before.
We arrived at the Keswick Memorial and watched the parade led by the Clergy of St. John's Church and uniformed members of local organisations assemble at the memorial along with quite a large turn out of local people and visitors.
A Bugler sounded the Last Post and the silence observed, after the laying of the wreaths we made our way to Spooney Green Lane and Applethwaite stopping for lunch in a sunny corner of a field. Worth a mention a HollyTree with a very generous covering of berries glowing in the sunshine , quite a sight.
We soon arrived at Crosthwaite Church and returned to Keswick for tea.
My thanks to all who came on the walk and a special thank you and well done to Fred Blundell.
