Only one car with four walkers departed from The Sands this morning but 4 more came direct from home to Martindale where we congregated at the old chapel.

The weather was threatening rain for much of the time but fortunately this held off until very near the end and the clouds were above the tops for the whole of the walk. We climbed Beda fell with great views and decided to continue all the way to Angletarn pikes (both of them) before accessing the path that runs from Angle Tarn to Boredale Hause. Lunch was taken under a hint of sunshine, before tackling the climb to the top of Place Fell. This climb is relentless but the views are stunning. From there we descended keeping to the left of High Dodd. This path eventually becomes, for the most part, a beautiful grassy sward which is a joy to walk on. After crossing the bridge at Doe Green it was a short walk passing under Winter Crag in drizzle to return to the cars. Tea and cake (doorstep sized) was partaken at Granny Dowbekins in Pooley Bridge.
