Another large turnout for Sundays adventurous walk in the Caldbeck “ badlands”
As promised we made our way up the narrow valley of Hay Gill before crossing open moorland over mostly trackless tussocky terrain which made the climb onto Hare Stones a bit if a lung buster
The going was much easier after this and lunch was taken overlooking the wild upper reaches of Roughton Gill
A decision was made not to make the steep descent into the gill of but to climb on Knott and then cross the tops of two more Wainwrights before descending to cross Dale Beck at the ford. Several different methods were employed and one or two more athletic walkers did manage to keep their feet dry
