Carlisle & District Rambling & Fellwalking Club

Walk & Event Reports

Another almost full coach and another popular b walk attracting 22 walkers.

From Grasmere village we set off under a grey skies but, out of the wind, the temperature was mild and made for pleasant walking, The only bit of wet ground was crossed early on as we made our way over Dow Bank into Great Langdale above Elterwater, The start of the half term holidays was evident in the number of families out and about and the narrow road that the walk followed for a short time was also busy. An early lunch was taken by the side of Loughrigg Tarn, a beautiful spot that is well worth seeking out. From here the weather slowly improved and there were even one or two takers for the ice cream van parked at Pelter Bridge. A final climb led up to the quarried caves on flanks of Loughrigg Fell with stunning views over Rydal Water and then more blue skies and warm sunshine as we traversed the famous Loughrigg Terrace high above Grasmere which made for a fine conclusion to a fine walk. Thanks for everyone who joined the walk.
