Blencathra is clearly a popular mountain and the “easy” route chosen by the leader attracted a large turnout. Setting aside some parking issues (more of which later) 29 Ramblers assembled at the end of Blease Road and set off in good order for a fine walk over this notable fell. The weather stayed fair with high cloud giving good views of distant Lakeland fells as well as Criffel. We made the soggy crossing of Mungrisedale Common reaching the “summit” of the second Wainwright of the day. It was commented that this might have been the largest group of walkers ever standing on the top of this little visited fell. The return was the made to the cars and several drivers, including the leader, were grateful for assistance to help them off the muddy parking area. A great day thanks to everyone who came along
