Loughrigg Fell and Rydal Caves

The weather forced a rethink to the planned A walk with the decision made to avoid the higher fells. We still enjoyed an interesting 8 mile round getting to the top of Loughrigg fell and after one or two false turns making our way down to the disused slate quarries that make up the man-made caves.
We were low enough to get fine views over Rydal Water and Grasmere although after taking lunch in the shelter of the cave the weather closed in and we made a soggy return along Loughrigg Terrace and the lakeside back to Grasmere for welcome refreshments
Thanks to everyone who came along and made the best of the day.
