Walk & Event Reports

After eventually finding the correct bus stop as our drop off point!! - 25 embarked on this walk up one of the lesser known fells in the area, on a cloudy, if dry day. As advertised, the first part was indeed uphill - but a banana break overlooking the Kent estuary and Morecambe Bay, with Blackpool Tower in the distance, spurred us onto the limestone plateau. Here, we were able to enjoy both the 360 panoramic views, and our immediate surroundings of limestone plateau with its unique rock formations, flora and wind shaped trees. After our plateaus wanderings and lunch we carefully negotiated the steep descent ( again as advertised) onto the woodland tracks below, where we enjoyed both the flatter terrain, and the views back up to Whitbarrow. A wee meander through drove roads, common land and woodland tracks, - and another surprise viewpoint -  found us enjoying the wild flower nature reserve en route to the Derby Arms, and our end of walk refreshments. An interesting day in an area that many had not previously explored, so thank you for your company  in one of my favourite places.
