20 members enjoyed a pleasant but chilly ascent of High Pike. Starting from Calbeck we initially went on field paths, some wetter than others, and minor roads to Hudscales Farm, from where old mine tracks led us to Birket mine. An ascending footpath, with a slight snow covering, east of Old Fell took us to the open fellside and then to the summit of High Pike. We saw intermittent views of the surrounding countryside, but the bitter wind caused us to delay the planned lunch stop. The descent, initially on open ground and then on old mine tracks, was via Potts Gill mine, where we had the delayed and more sheltered lunch stop, and Nether Row. Minor roads and field paths took us back to Caldbeck and welcome refreshments.
