What a wonderful “Swinging Walk” we had today. Nice and sunny , dry but a little cold at times and it was very muddy at times. Joe and Pat, standing in for Gill who was injured, took us along some lovely paths and through some lovely woodland. We stopped for lunch in the children’s play park in Hesket  Newmarket. Some of the group squeezed into the little Wendy House and some of us had a great time on the swings. After  lunch we set off through some more woods and had a little scare when Madge slipped on the  mud and crashed to the ground. She thought at first she had broken something but after a few minutes she realised she was ok and was soon back on her feet.  We came across our second swing of the day, this time it was just a rope hanging from a tree and some of us had a good go at impersonating Tarzan. We made our way back into Caldbeck and as we had time to spare we visited the “Howk”, a waterfall  and long abandoned bobbin mill. It was then off to the café  for refreshments. A fantastic  day, what walking is all about, enjoying the countryside, the fresh air and the company and all at a nice comfortable pace for everyone. Thanks to everyone who came along especially Joe and Pat for a really great day.
