A Walk

Barf - Lords Seat

Leader: Pete Rutland

Report & Photos by Pete Rutland

With the forecast showing winds of 50mph Causey Pike seemed like a bad idea being a very exposed hill. Consequently we moved on down To Thornthwaite a couple of miles to the foot of Barf. Not wanting to miss out on the snow covered tops but with the benefit of some cover from the the trees 15 of us set off up the hill. A couple of fun gill crossings and a bit of scrambling got us out onto the hill side. That was after Johns dog tried to show some common sense by not wanting to go across a dodgy bit of ground but the other 15 in the party had scrambled across, so the hound had no choice but to tag along.

The summit of Barf was soon taken in along with the views but it was noticeable that we were now exposed to the wind. It was onto Lords Seat where we realised the decision not to go up Causey was the right one. From there into the woods and the shelter of the trees where  lunch was taken under the branches, all rather snug. It was then down through the woods to the road and a short stretch along the road. Turning down a forest track and back to Thornthwaite and the cars.

Thanks to everyone who pitched up, wind apart this turned out a special day with some great snow scapes to marvel at.

Pete.
