A Walk
Birdoswald to Haltwhistle
Leader: Alan Dobson
Report & Photos by Alan Dobson
10 of us vacated the bus at Birdozwald to a bright and cold windy day and made our way along the wall to Gilsland as soon as we dropped into the valley and lost the wind it was a different warm day which was the pattern for the rest of the walk ,quite chilly and exposed on top of wall town crags but the clarity and views all day were very good.We stopped for lunch at Wall town crags which has had a major make over with seats and tables inside the information centre then it was onwards to Cawfields up some steep up and downs before taking the Burn path to Haltwhistle this was a little muddy and boggy in places a result of the wet conditions and animals paddling in the fields .THe path leading into Haltwhistle passed old limestone KIlns and the now closed brickwork. Haltwhistle itself was a bit of a ghost town hardly anyone around no shops or coffee shops open but we managed to get refreshments at a busy hotel and one of the several pubs that were open. Thanks to everyone who came along
