Plan 'A' succeeded for once in that we had 8 walkers in 2 cars which meant we had one car at the start and one at the end saving 2 mls of valley trudge following a great high level 7.5 mls walk in fabulous autumn clear cool weather. The initial steep climb from Lanthwaite Green up Whin Benn onto Whiteside did prove a challenge but once on the ridge with views to the Isle of Man , over Southern Scotland and the Borders to the Pennines and all the local Mountains you just know you are going to have a great day, and so it proved, with the added bonus of subtle changes to the light and cloud which gave great atmosphere and kept the cameras clicking away all day. Whilst Lunch was initially planned for Hopegill Head the chill wind led us to decide to drop down to Gasgale Gill on Cauldale Hause but not before 'Mountain Goat' Andy had decided he would trot on ahead and do Grasmoor as well before rejoining the group at Wandhope Moss!! Enjoying Whiteless Edge/Pike we were amazed looking down to Buttermere how many vehicles we could see but as we progressed all became clear as there was what seemed like hundreds of fell runners competing just as we then finished the walk along Rannerdale Knotts. Welcome refreshments enjoyed in Buttermere pretty well ended a perfect day. Thank you to all who attended.
