Place Fell,  if one could forgive the pun, was a popular place with Carlisle Ramblers today.  Both A and B groups set off to climb it and both groups (obviously) were rewarded with the sort of beautiful autumn day that comes once in a blue moon.  The sun shone,  the views were amazing,  and while there was a chilly northerly breeze,  it was easy enough to protect from it with suitable clothing.  There were 7 of us on the A walk,  and after the delightful climb up to Place Fell,  steep,  a bit scrambly in parts, we resisted the suggestion that we should alert the B group to our presence by rolling down a few boulders onto them.  (It could so easily have caused a delay on the bus setting off.)  We left the hoi polloi who were following us and headed for our second summit of High Dodd where we found  a depression in the ground which protected us from the wind,  and had the sort of discussion over lunch that one only finds when a group of gnarled and grizzled fell walkers get together.  From there it was down to the lake shore at Sandwick,  and then back on the old corpse road to the lovely coffee, tea and cakes at the farm at the end of the lake.  We were somewhat fortunate to take over the place in plenty of time to get the best of the cakes,  about 20 mins before a weary looking B group staggered in.  Lovely walk,  super day,  many thanks to Alan for leading it.
