Branstree & Seaside Fell from Mardale
Leader: Pete Rutland
Report & Photos by Pete Rutland
With many of the group away enjoying the mountains in Scotland and todays walk being a last minute affair the group was small today.
Starting from Mardale Head it was up Gatesgarth Pass then onto Branstree. Today we managed to experience at least three seasons on this walk. At times very cold with a sharp wind and just about missing a heavy fall of hail going up the valley to some very pleasant warm sunshine where it was necessary to strip off some clothing. Putting up with the erratic weather was well worth it as we were rewarded with some of the best views so far this year in this magical corner of the Lakes.
After Branstree it was onto Seaside Pike where lunch was taken in the shelter. Then on down picking up the Corpse Road back toward Haweswater. Here we had the best views of the day. Hitting the road it was back to the head of the valley and the car. After walk tea in the Haweswater Hotel before heading home. A great walk, thanks to those who came out.
Pete.
