Six of us set off for a circular walk around Gilsland on a glorious but sometimes chilly morning
going west to Birdozwsld and then east up the Irthing Valley ,although some had done parts of this walk before no one had done the complete walk especially along the valley top up to the waterfall .The going got a little tricky in places where branches were growing over the path and there were several obstacles to contend with where there were fallen trees.
Infact there were many fallen trees to be seen the result of the January storms in one part of the forest 40 or50 trees had been flattened
The plan was to have coffee at Lanercost after the walk we arrived at 4.00pm to find it was shut (closing time 4.30) and although we tried two more coffee shops they were also closed
