For one reason or another, which I won’t go into, I didn’t join the walk till the lunch break at Featherstone Bridge. Phil, the club expert on bridges, explained the design of the bridge and very interesting it was too. An SSMA apparently, single span masonry arch, I suspect you all knew that . It’s one of the things I love about the club, it’s so educational, we have experts on just about everything you could think off. There were eight on the walk (all experts on something ) on a beautiful sunny day and after lunch we made our way past the impressive Featherstone Castle and on to the old POW camp. An interesting place the old camp, well worth a Google. The going was quite tough with the ground well churned up by cattle and rather muddy. We struggled up the steep steps (well, I did) on to the Lambley Viaduct where Frank explained how they do bungee jumping from it (yet another expert) I don’t think I’ll be bungee jumping anytime soon. It was then off on the last stretch, along the disused railway line, back to the cars. We all sped off to Hayton Farm Shop for some lovely refreshment and Heather pointed out a new interesting little gadget that was on sale, a silicone sunflower lid, it would take too long explain what it is, Google it. A lovely interesting and educational walk and some great crack, very varied, political correctness and kangaroo’s whatsits amongst many other topics. Thanks to everyone who came along and thanks to Stephen for leading.
