Report & Photos by David Bulman
You have to accept the one and a half hour journey if you want to experience the beauty of this wonderful isolated corner of The Lakes.
6 of us did and what a day we enjoyed. The weather was excellent for walking, the views fabulous and we had the whole of the fell tops to ourselves! We started through the Roman Fort and via a pathless route we picked our way up as best we could onto the top of Border End. 20 minutes later we stopped for lunch on Hard Knott - but not before Neill "scratched an itch" and took in a couple of rock scrambles. Then it was all downhill to the picturesque Lingcove Beck - one amusing incident occurred about halfway down when Larry the Lamb ran past us all clearly intent on catching up with Sam (dog) who was in front - the lamb stopped a surprised Sam in his tracks but they simply looked at each other and touched noses before the lamb realised it wasn't his mum after all so they both trotted off in different directions quit unconcerned -it was a lovely moment over too quickly to get the cameras out. We followed the beck down to the start with some entertainment along the way watching the families out enjoying the many swimming pools. Refreshments were taken at The Woolpack where the only vacant outside table for 6 under a gazebo seemed to have been reserved specially for us! Thanks to everyone who turned out , we had a memorable day with good banter and craic throughout.
