Good tip for walk leaders. You are asked what is the name of that tarn and you haven't really a clue. Just say "if memory serves me right (or similar) it is Blea Tarn”. Apparently there are quite a few Blea Tarns in the Lakes. Today, ie. tarn spotting from the ridge of Rough Crag, leading to Riggindale, you would have been wrong. It was Blea Water, but that is close enough to be forgiven. A very memorable tarn in fact - the deepest at just over 200ft in the Lake District. The odd tarn was far from the only feature visible today. It was a beautiful day, warm sunshine, amazing clarity and, as ever in the Haweswater area, very few people around. There were 6 of us on the walk and after walking and scrambling the delightful Riggindale Crag onto High St., we headed due north onto High Raise and then to Kidsty Pike. For the first time this year we had a sprinkling of snow. Not enough for an avalanche, or even a snowball fight, but the genuine article just the same. Helvellyn, very clearly visible, had a lot more on its Eastern slopes. The whole walk, taken at a fairly leisurely pace, took about 5 hours with a generous stop for lunch. It was just starting to go slightly darker when we finished - about 4pm - and headed for the excellent tea and scones at the Haweswater Hotel. A wonderful walk, many thanks to Lauren
(a.k.a. "the mountain goat") for planning and leading it.
