Fifteen Walkers joined the group including new recruits Polly, Neil and Walter (the dog) setting out from Stonethwaite on an overcast morning but with the promise of an improving day. Unfortunately not long into the walk one of the group felt unwell and had to return, with their partner, to the parked cars. The main party proceeded on by way of a series of the interesting scrambles onto the top of Eagle Crag to be greeted by blue skies and spectacular views. An easy way was made over to the slightly loftier top of Sergeants Crag with more fine views of Langstrath and most of the big central fells easily identifiable. Enjoying the warm sunshine we descended grassy, trackless slopes to the bottom of Greenup Valley, finally picking up the main path under Lining Crag. A straightforward return to Stonethwaite in the late afternoon sun made for a fine end to a fine,
if at times challenging walk of about 6 miles.
