Seventeen of us left the Kilngreen in Langholm and seventeen of us arrived at Glendinning in Megdale a very good start, congratulations to the drivers. Lorraine Luescher, who farms the area very kindly met us and gave us a short and extremely informative introduction to this little known area and the Louisa Mine.We then set off up the Glenshanna burn, a happy bunch on a lovely morning. The remains of the mine examined, the route led us up the slopes of Grey Hill, except for the two who (wisely) took another route. It was a tough ascent (these rushes are higher than I am came a plaintive cry from behind me). I hope the wonderful panoramic views made it all worthwhile. Joining the rest of the party at Corlaw, it was up the forest track for lunch before descending to the quite exceptional  Greensykes Bothy, before returning  down the beautiful Megdale back to Langholm for refreshments. Many thanks to all who made my job as leader very easy, to the Eskdale hotel for tea etc, and scones, to Anne for organising the teas and generally giving me vital support, and to a nameless walker on her most suitable footwear.
