A glorious day – a Summer’s day! A great shame there were only three of us to delight in the sunshine, the wonderful variety of colours to be seen in the trees and hedgerows of early Autumn and the sparkling waters of the river. From Haydon Bridge we wiggled along country roads until we entered Staward Gorge and undulating paths, sometimes low down near the South Tyne and sometimes way above it. Finally emerging at the car park at the head of Allen Banks, we walked along country roads to cross fields with expansive views of the Northumbrian countryside. We had a welcome cup of tea at the village store cum tea shop in Bardon Mill. Many thanks to Ian for a wonderful and enchanting walk, hopefully to be repeated in the future.
