Thank you to the 7 who were waiting for me at The Sands on a lovely cold and clear day. Because I wanted to return an item of clothing to Millets we set off to walk through Carlisle rather than the “scenic” route via Rickerby Park. The unexpected bonus of this was that one or two got to see the stunning ‘Knife Angel’ just as it was being dismantled.
At the Weir at Denton Holme Mill we followed the path towards Dalston. We turned left over the bridge at Cummersdale, across a field and under the very low rail bridge to climb uphill to Blackwell Farm. Here we had spectacular views over Carlisle from a very different viewpoint.
Back through Hammonds Pond and some very icy footpaths, dropping down to Gifford Park, out by the Swallow Hilltop and opposite B&Q where we went our different ways.
Happy New Year to All.
