Well, what a day!
At 09.45 in pouring rain, and after some had endured a battering by wind and rain just getting to the start, all present felt it would be unwise to continue and the walk should be called off. The thought of getting soaked through for the second time in three days wasn’t appealing.
The bus from Carlisle had been delayed and we expected our walking colleagues to be on that. The decision was made - we headed to Sally’s for coffee and scones! Heads up, all bright and relieved.
The bus arrived and we managed to locate each other for all to enjoy Sally’s offering of warmth, shelter and good fare.
Before we knew it the weather changed and as one wise man said “ what’s the problem? “ Everyone was heartened and wanting to do the walk, we grabbed our gear and headed off.
Although rain was threatening we saw not a drop. Overall the paths were good and as we stepped into Sally’s for the afternoon session - the heavens opened! Then sunshine. Catherine and myself sincerely thank the eleven others who - maybe unwisely - turned out and completed the intended walk. How lucky we were and so glad we persevered.
Best wishes Catherine and Tony.
