Eight of us met at the Bus Station to catch the 685 to Haltwhistle. Chris sent her apologies as she was now unable to co lead the walk. She has adopted a six month old Whippet which was in urgent need of a loving home.
Ken and Ann were waiting in Sainsburys car park so off we went. We followed Haltwhistle Burn up to the Military Road. A right turn here and after couple of hundred yards we turned left crossing fields to arrive at Caw Quarry. Up we went to Caw Gap. Here I gave the 10 of us a choice either to ascend and follow the Wall or take the lower path following the Vallum. Split vote. 5 went up 5 stayed low. We met at the road.
After lunch our route took us across fields back to the Military road crossing straight over for few hundred yards, then sharp right over fields, aiming for a Pillon, right again, Haltwhistle came into view. We then followed a well defined footpath back to Haltwhistle Burn and Sainsbury's carpark with plenty of time to spare to catch the 15.18 bus back to Carlisle.
Thanks a lot Folks. I enjoyed the walk.
