Carlisle & District Rambling & Fellwalking Club

Walk & Event Reports

Storm?  What storm?  Nine intrepid walkers set out in good spirits from
Dougles Square in damp but pleasant conditions. The only hazard we
encountered on the road walk up to the forest was not weather related -
an unladen timber wagon sneaking up behind us to collect a load.  On
reaching the car park at the forest entrance we unaccountably managed to
miss seeing all the "Walks  Closed" signs, and pressed happily on.

Having safely negotiated a few fallen trees, we reached Whithaugh
Adventure Park with impeccable timing to take a short lunch break under
the shelter of cabin roofs just as the rain and wind increased somewhat.
On crossing the Liddle footbridge, since there was no sign of any
improvement in the weather, it was decided democratically to take the
shortest route back to town.

The Olive Tree, bless them, were not at all put out by a group of
drookit rats arriving two hours early, and had our table ready. The
cheery chat, which had never stopped all day, continued during the
welcome refreshments.

Very many thanks to you all for coming and making a great day out of
what might have been a disaster!  I promise, as requested, to put on
another Copshaw walk soon, to explore areas we missed today
