Carlisle & District Rambling & Fellwalking Club

Walk & Event Reports

Not a very auspicious start to the day when the walk leader had to sprint (fast walk!) back to the car park to retrieve her phone; however it did provide the rest of the group with the opportunity to quiz one of the water engineers near the river outlet to as to what they were doing. Apparently they are aiding the survival of some very rare fresh water mussels only found in Ennerdale. That wasn't the only knowledge of the environment  we acquired during the walk. We also came across a student from  Oxford who is looking at the possibility of  reintroducing pinemartins to the area. To add to the excitement of the day we were also treated to a fly pass by what was possibly a Hercules (?) although an expert may identify it as something completely different!

All in all an interesting day and the walk wasn't bad either. Thanks to The Gather Community Cafe in Ennerdale Bridge for reserving tables for our tea and to everyone for their company
