The 22 who managed to overcome the first hurdle, ie finding the start point, left Low Gelt on what turned out to be a very enjoyable nine mile trek through varied countryside. Two others had a senior moment and ended up in Hallbankgate - we didn’t see them again!
The riverside walk through the woods was magnificent, the child in many unable to resist crunching and kicking the carpet of golden - brown crispy leaves. There were some lovely views, Greenwell was quaint and serene with a pair of swans on the pond. Yes there was some mud, but very little and mainly in the farmyard at Talkin. The farmers were friendly, the weather was good and the team were in great form having good banter and lots of fun at the expense of the more gullible amongst us. We ended a brilliant day with refreshments at Hayton Farm Shop where staff had reserved tables for us. A final nice surprise was the appearance of Marjorie who came to have tea with us all. Thanks to all for your support in making a very enjoyable day.
