Ken's Report

Congratulations to the thirteen walkers brave enough to venture out on a murky and misty morning!  Those travelling from the south were rewarded when, after Canonbie, the hilltops appeared against a blue sky.  There was a lovely start to the walk, pleasant in the sun, despite a temerature of -6!

We had glorious views from the top of Timpen, above cloud which was beginning to fill the valleys once more, Skiddaw clearly visible to the south, and the ubiquitous wind turbines greatly improved by their eerie appearance through the cloud to the north.

Unfortunately, we were soon enveloped in cloud ourselves, and lunch atop Caulfield Rigg ended just in time to prevent us all from taking on the appearance of frozen snowmen (sorry, snowpeople).

Navigating by the sun (!) we safely descended to the Crab Apple Loaning, the mud at the start being pleasingly frozen

(sorry, Graham).

Many thanks to the Buccleuch Centre for their warm welcome, scones and copious quantities of warming drinks

Jenny's Report

We had a good walk, ably led by Ken, on a very cold day. We started off in bright sunshine with lovely blue skies, the views of the local hills were excellent, especially with the sprinkling of snow. Of course it couldn't last, and halfway through  the walk thick fog came along and it was hard to see anything. Ken made sure we all stayed together and he led us onwards confidently. The good thing was, the ground was frozen so mud was not a problem. On the way back down to Langolm we all noticed our hair was frosted and crackly!  We had excellent tea and cake at the Buccleugh centre which thawed us all out. Another good Wednesday walk. Thanks to Ken, who is seen demonstrating his frozen coiffure.
