Mike's Report
Unfortunately due to a lack of cars we had to abandon the scheduled walk to Jockey Shield.Instead we made our way along the river past Stoneyholme golf course. The going was fairly flat but it was a pleasant sunny morning. We eventually reached the lonning that leads to Tescos..This had been badly flooded but eventually we all made it to Tescos and a well deserved cup of tea.We returned to Carlisle by Warwick road and back along the golf course. The walk was approximately 3 miles in length and all 8 members seemed to enjoy it.

I picked up Frank this morning but was a bit behind schedule having overslept. We made our way straight to Jockey Shield and found Ken and Anne waiting for everyone to arrive. We waited and waited but nobody came. Unable to get a phone signal we couldn’t find out what was happening and finally decided to head off on the proposed walk. What a lovely walk it was, an absolutely glorious day, bright sunshine, good visibility and being very cold not much mud, as the ground was frozen. It was quite slippy in parts but fortunately we didn’t have any accidents. We had a short stop at The Gairs, I believe these short stops are called “Banana Stops”, it seems to be the in phrase at the moment but not having any bananas I had a “Corned Beef & Tomato Sandwich Stop” instead. We made a proper lunch stop a few miles further on at the bridge before heading back via the waterworks to the cars, spotting a nice little herd of deer on the way. A wonderful day and a wonderful walk, I’m sorry the rest of you didn’t make it to Jockey Shield and had to make do with Tesco, at least there would be no shortage of bananas there.
