Despite the rather heavy rain as we left Carlisle, 11 of us made it to the start of the walk in Haltwhistle, where it was dry, at least initially. Braving some rather boggy fields we made our way up to Hardrian's wall in time for lunch and some very atmospheric views of the mist rising up from the valley below us.
After lunch we followed the wall in a westerly direction to Cawfields quarry, before joining up once more with Haltwhistle Burn. We tracked the burn back into Haltwhistle, accompanied by a pair of very busy dippers. Bird life was abundant on the walk with the cries of sky larks and curlews as we crossed the moorland. We also met a brand new lamb, which hadn't yet learnt to differentiate two legs from four!
Thanks to everyone for their jolly company.
