A Walk

Haweswater - Low Kop Fell

With the weather forecast looking mighty grim it didn’t surprise me that we were down to the bottom of the walking barrel as far as numbers were concerned. Even before getting to Burnbanks it was obvious that we would be walking in snow most of the day. Arriving at the car park the first thing we saw was a hare sitting in the road, it quickly legged it into a field and off in the snow. This was soon followed by a red squirrel pretty much doing the same thing. It was then that I had the feeling today was the day I was going to see a snow leopard, then someone poked me with a walking stick and we set off.

The walk went as planned, along by  Haweswater and then up by Measand Beck and onto Low Kop Fell. The viz was pretty good with only the high tops sat in clag. Lunch was taken at an old quarry workings. It was surprisingly warm with little wind and although there were some snow flurries the weather was kind all day. We headed down via Four Stones Hill taking in the views the full length of Haweswater. It was then on back to the cars. All in all it turned out a pretty good day, anyway loving these conditions it worked well for me. Thanks to Sue, David and dogs for pitching up, hope you enjoyed it.

After tea at the Haweswater Hotel the wildlife show continued. Driving back along the Lake side a very big Deer jumped the fence and all but landed on the bonnet of my car, almost had venison for tea.
