Nineteen walkers set off on the Lower Tarras Walk. We paused briefly to admire the new mural of a famous line from a Hugh MacDiarmid poem before taking the track south out of Langholm following the track to Broomholmshiels thankfully seeing no trace of bull, cows and calves as posted on the gate onto the hill. The autumn colours were muted but magnificent. After the stretch of road we reached the Rashiel bridge and then turned to follow the Tarras Water as far as Glentarras and the Tarras bridge. The going was often boggy and care was necessary. We returned to Langholm by road, old railway line and track making the steep descent down to the Skipper’s Bridge and the delights of the Church Cafe. Thanks to all who came for their excellent company and for not moaning about mud in my hearing!
