We all arrived by the appointed time at Ravenstonedale and although the parking was a bit tricky we all managed to get parked in a free space. The vintage double decker bus arrived on time and we were all accommodated upstairs so we all had an excellent view the trip to Kirkby Stephen.
There was 19 of us and the weather was great for walking with a cooling breeze and another lovely bright and eventually sunny day, with birds singing constantly. We couldn’t walk over Smardale Viaduct as it is being worked on at present, lots of money being spent to ensure it endures safely for another 100 years or so. We did see a steam train travelling along on the Settle line, the walk went well , the scenery is spectacular in that area, and we timed it perfectly to get back to the Kings Head at Ravenstonedale for tea and scones which were waiting for us, we sat outside in the sunshine and the lovely staff brought it outside to us.
Thanks to all who came along and enjoyed the day, and particular thanks to Cumbria Classic Coaches who changed their normal single decker to a double decker bus for us, and thanks to the Kings Head in Ravenstonedale for their excellent service.
