Langholm Eight Bridges Walk
Leader: Nancy McLure

Thirteen walkers set off in cloudy conditions heading south on the Eight Bridges walk. The autumn colours were spectacular as we climbed the steps to the old railway line. We reached the bridge over the peaty Tarras Water, one of the tributaries of the Border Esk and then followed the track up the river admiring the seams of coal and the many muddy puddles. The path became more indistinct but we battled on till the wonderful lunch spot on the banks of the Tarras where the sun shone briefly.
We were not the only people on our route as two young men on a quad bike were checking the route for a future shooting party and kept stalking us by accident. We reached the second and last bridge over the Tarras Water and then followed road and track back into Langholm still enjoying dry weather and ended with refreshments at the church coffee afternoon. We were delighted not to meet cows, calves and bull on the track and also that the rain did not come on till we were refreshed. Thanks to all for coming and being such a cheerful group
