Eighteen of us found it wasn't as hot as it might have been, though the advent of the school holidays meant that there were more people around than we'd bargained on. Parking was a bit of a problem and there were lots of families on the river beach at Watersmeet where the lunch spot was planned and abandoned. It was idylically cool in the woods under the tree canopy with the Tyne bubbling away to itself on one side.
We took in Acomb village and a visit to St Johns Lee church (another cool oasis inside) on the way back to Hexham where we had a very welcome cup of tea.
It was a quite a long way to go but the Tyne Valley is good and interesting walking.
Thanks to Ken for backmarking.
